Is it true that cats are scared of cucumbers? Why do cats get scared of cucumbers?
Cucumbers look like snakes
The reason why cats get scared of cucumbers or pickles is because they remind them of snakes. This is an evolutionary fear that has kept the feline species alive in the wild. Cats are creatures of hot climates by origin, and snaked are plentiful in hot climates.
In the wild, there are no vets and anti-venom shots, and cats don’t posses even the basic knowledge of how to deal with snake bites. They also don’t have fingers or thumbs, so they can’t bandage the area to stop the spread of venom to the heart.
The only way cats know how to deal with wounds is to lick them, which can only make things worse if they’ve been bitten by a poisonous snake. That’s why the cats are so afraid of cucumbers and zucchini and pickles, and anything that resembles a snake.
The feline nature
Cats get scared easily in general. They’re known for their skittishness.

Cats don’t like the cucumbers to be behind them, for obvious reasons. A cucumber behind them reminds them of a snake behind them.
Inability to reason
Cats can’t reason like humans. If it looks like a snake, it will be treated like one. Cats feel instinctive fear, and they can’t try to understand why they’re afraid and analyze the situation like we can. They simply have an association to danger, and they act accordingly.
This slicker brush gently removes dander, dirt, and loose fur while untangling knots. Excellent for both dogs and cats of all sizes and all fur types. Thin bent wires that get deep inside the coat but don’t scratch the skin. Leaves fur soft and shiny. Click to view.
Ha! Would someone explain that to our cats? Two of them when younger would bring back baby snakes as prizes. Luckily they grew out of that 😉

My sister’s cat had brought a live snake home, and they can’t find it up to this day. Some cats are scared of cucumbers, and then some aren’t. Some cats remember they’re prey, but some can only remember they’re hunters.

I should really try this on my cats and make a video of it… Every cat is different as an individual.

A garden snake here would be attacked I suspect, at my house, but I don’t have one so I can’t test it out. I never heard of cats or anyone else mistaking a cucumber for a snake, but I don’t get cukes very often so I can’t test this out either. Oh well. 😺

Better worms than finger-size winged cockroaches, which is what we have around here.

Hi. My cat isn’t scared of snakes or cucumbers. She has killed plenty of snakes in the garden.

Better her killing them than them getting in the house. Brave kitty.
My cat just brought a live winged cockroach in the house instead of killing the ones that get in the house.
